      <image:title>Staff - LYDIa Chief distraction officer</image:title>
<image:caption>Lydia joined our team in October of 2023 when she instantly fell in love with the dog-fueled chaos of our home. She loves when new clients visit and will always introduce herself boldly to any new dog that comes through the door. We appreciate this trait as it’s a great way to evaluate potential service dogs when performing their first consultation. She also LOVES to be a part of both private and group classes that occur within the home. Don’t get offended when she “mugs” your treat bag for beef liver; she’s simply taking what she believes is due for the important work she does. Lydia has exceptional timing during classes; almost always when a dog is ready to have additional distractions, she will strut in front of them to test their self control. We couldn’t ask for a better facility cat!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Staff - Kasey Joy Nash, IAABC-ADT and BUCS-CADI HEAD trainer</image:title>
<image:caption>Kasey Joy Nash has been raising and training Service Dogs since 2006, and in that time personally raised 20 service dogs start to finish. She attended and earned her Assistance Dog Training Certification from Bergin University of Canine Studies in 2015 and had maintained her CPDT-KA through the Certification Council for Professional Dog Trainers 2016-2025. In 2025 she moved her accreditation from the CCPDT to the International Association of Animal Behavior Consultants as she determined their Accredited Dog Trainer exam is a better reflection of a dog trainer’s skills, knowledge and experience. She has worked in various dog and disability related positions throughout her life. Kasey uses modern, humane dog training methods based in established behavioral sciences. These methods prioritize the canine-human relationship through communication, ethology and patience; Kasey does not use pain or fear as training tools as they are not only unnecessary, but counter-productive in creating the type of drive and stability necessary for a dog to excel at and enjoy the lifestyle of a service dog. Kasey offers customized training plans and opportunities based on individual needs, preferences, personalities and budgets. Every person’s journey to finding their perfect service dog match is different, and Kasey is excited to work with you in finding your perfect, soulmate-level service dog match.</image:caption>

<image:caption>$45 in person attendance or $35 virtual attendance These are, by far, the best way to get the most information on a limited budget. On Thursdays at 5:30, Kasey offers 1 hour seminars that cover the wide spectrum of subjects necessary to training your own service dog. She focuses on discussion-based learning, and for those who thrive in a classroom environment it is the best way to learn how to train your own service dog. If you participate in our monthly group outings, this is a great way to learn alongside the peers and friends you have made along the way.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Owner-Training Program - consultation</image:title>
<image:caption>$155 A consultation is required before starting any kind of training in the Joyful Paws Service Dogs program. This time gives us an opportunity to go over all of the details needed to begin a working relationship, and will help create a training plan for moving forward. If you have a dog already, an evaluation of the dog’s temperament and suitability as a service dog prospect is included. If you haven’t gotten a dog yet, we will discuss your options and get started on our search for the right puppy or dog for your individual needs. Click here to schedule a consultation. Appointments only available on Tuesdays and Fridays.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Owner-Training Program - private lessons</image:title>
<image:caption>$140 each or $700 for a package of 6 Private lessons offer individualized support, instruction and training plans to help you and your dog achieve your personal goals. Training sessions can take place in the home, in a training center or in a public location, depending on which best suits the goal of the lesson. Because our goal is always to teach you how to become an effective trainer, these lessons will be frequent in the beginning of training, but as you advance and become more comfortable with training and handling on your own, we might supplement with other forms of training and only schedule private lessons for specific issues or challenges that you come across. Appointments only available on Tuesdays and Fridays. Note: The first step is to book a consultation; further lessons can be scheduled after that consultation is complete.</image:caption>

      <image:title>Owner-Training Program - group Outings</image:title>
<image:caption>$45 per outing Our monthly group outings offer the opportunity to learn and practice obedience and advanced skills around other dogs and distractions; but even more than that, it provides a community for owner-trainers who can learn, laugh and cry together through the emotional roller coaster that is raising and training your own service dog. We currently offer group classes only for more advanced students who already have the basics of handling and obedience under their belt. Group outings are different every month — in the past, we have done bus and airport training, visited amusement parks, gone to the zoo and much more!</image:caption>

      <image:title>Types of Service Dogs - chronic illnesses</image:title>
<image:caption>CHRONIC ILLNESS Every individual’s chronic illness can look a little different — so many programs who have a “mold” of dogs they produce have trouble meeting a client’s individual needs. A well-trained service dog for chronic illnesses helps “buy time” between debilitating symptoms. If a person gets chronically fatigued, having a dog who can tell them to stop before they even get tired can be the difference between being exhausted after one hour, versus being productive all day (with breaks strategically timed and managed by your furry medical monitor). Some tasks that these dogs can be trained to perform: Deep pressure or tactile therapy to combat blood pooling in legs and reduce heart rate and blood pressure Cardiac alert — to changes in heart rate and blood pressure allows handler time to rest and recover before symptoms become problematic Retrieves to prevent frequent bending and minimize movement needed Guiding or finding a specific location (exit, chair, human helper) to combat disorientation, brain fog or temporary loss of vision “Get help” cue — to find a human helper or dial 911 in case of emergency Emergency communication — Bring an information card to passers by to communicate what needs to be done in the event of a collapse (e.g., “don’t call 911 unless I have hit my head”), then staying with and performing deep pressure therapy on handler until they recover</image:caption>

<image:caption>Placed: May 6th, 2025 Joy has what we call a “sparkle”. She’s bouncy, joyful and a happy worker. She was the best fit for Ethan, who is currently being mentored in our program to become a certified service dog trainer in the future. We will also continue to evaluate Joy’s health, temperament and structure through adulthood when she will be considered as a breeding prospect</image:caption>

<image:caption>Placed: May 13th, 2025 David turns into butter the moment you start handling him, and has a knack for gazing deep in your soul when returning eye contact. He was an excellent match for Alex, and will be a very loyal and committed companion; he is one of those puppies that just instantly heals everything that hurts. With those natural traits and a careful upbringing and training, he will do a great job as Alex’s allergen detection and autism support dog.</image:caption>

<image:caption>Placed: February 17th, 2021 Charlotte was the final puppy raised and trained through our program before we moved away from California. Since being placed, she’s been a world traveler: Planes, cruises, hospital stays, ambulance rides, state fairs, and much more. She is happiest when she is working, both at home and in public. Her long list of tasks include medication retrieval, forward momentum pull, medical alert, deep pressure therapy, dropped item retrieves, emergency button activation and seizure response. She has been trained to perform anxiety alerts, deep pressure therapy, emergency button activation, medication retrieval, behavior disruption and forward momentum pull to exits/safe places. Since being placed, she has assisted Nicole in living an independent and healthy life. She has successfully prevented psychiatric emergencies from escalating, and has been a great addition to Nicole’s treatment plan. She will continue training for the next 8 months in finishing her task list, including guide work, hearing alerts and medical alert and response; in the meantime, Wanda continues to impress with her public access skills, and has already finished training in one of her tasks. <image:title>Pet Adoptions - adopting a career-changed service dog</image:title>
<image:caption>Not every dog has what it takes to become a service dog, and sometimes that doesn’t become evident until months or years into their training and development. We do our best to find a home that fits every one of our dogs, even if that means finding a home that just wants a loving pet rather than a service dog. Our dogs can be released from our training program for medical or behavioral reasons. While some deficits that preclude them from becoming a service dog do not make a difference in pet life, some of them are still a factor to consider when adopting them. Please fill out this form if you are interested in being notified when one of our dogs is looking for a pet home. The price (or lack thereof) is determined on a case-by-case basis, depending on the deficit and how much it will impact the dog’s life as a pet.</image:caption>
